I love vols 1-3, blueprint, black album, and I really enjoy most of his other albums. I also have no idea how any Jay Z fan could possibly prefer any other Jay Z album over this. I honestly can't believe it's been 25 years, it seems much longer considering I was just in high school at the time and all the shit I been through since then.

I probably memorized that album within a couple weeks. I remember I took that CD with me everywhere in my car, then took it out when i got home and it would be in my home system 100% of the time. The mall had a tower records and just bought that shit, put it in, sure enough Brooklyn's Finest was on there which made me so fuckin hype, cause I didn't even know the name of that song. I'm like fuck it i have to buy this album. I was close to a mall at the time so I pulled over and just listened to the rest of the song and sure enough at the end, the DJ actually spoke and said this was Jay Z's new single. I thought Kurupt was coming through with a solo album. Again I had no idea it was Jay Z, honestly I thought he sounded a lot like Kurupt. Then some time that fall when it started snowing, I heard the song "cant knock the hustle" on that same station and I fell in love with it. Or maybe a Junior Mafia album cause I had no idea that was Jay Z on the track, I thought it was someone from Junior Mafia. I thought it was a Biggie song that would one day come out on a new biggie album. Now back then we didn't have the same kind of internet we have today, and no titles of the songs on the radio, so I heard that song a million times before I knew it was a Jay Z song. And they would play over and over and over Brooklyn's Finest.

This came out in June 96 and I slept on it because "Aint No Nigga" was all I knew from him and it just seemed like a decent song but nothing that would make me wanna buy the record.īut in Chicago we had this rap station (I think 92.7) that played real shit. I actually remember the day I bought this cd.
